William Petty (1820-1887)

William Petty was born on 18 May 1820 in Ohio to Josiah and Sarah A. (Sheets) Petty. In the 1820 census that was taken on 7 August, Josiah and his family were in Union, Miami, Ohio. A few years later the family moved to Wayne County, Indiana.

William continued to live with his family until after 1840. On 13 February 1844 he married Mary Ann Bish. The marriage record has Mary crossed out and her name changed to Ann Eliza Bish. However, all of the records after the marriage have her name as Mary Ann. Mary Ann does have a sister named Elizabeth who married William’s brother, Martin.
