Eli Petty (1837-1867)

Eli Petty was born on 1 May 1837 in Indiana to Josiah and Sarah A. (Sheets) Petty. I did not find Eli mentioned anywhere until 1860 when he was living with his brother, John, and his family in Muncie, Delaware, Indiana and working as a clerk at the age of 23.

Eli married Caroline Beouy on 13 July 1862 in Delaware County, Indiana. Caroline was the daughter of Thomas and Essignor (Furnish) Beouy. She was born about 1841.

Eli Petty died on 7 March 1867. He was buried in the Salem Baptist Church in Hagerstown, Wayne County, Indiana.

After Eli died, Caroline moved back home and was living with her parents in 1870. She had living with her a son, Thomas Willard Petty, who was born on 16 July 1865 in Howard County, Indiana.

Caroline died on 30 September 1875 and she was buried in the Wheeling Cemetery in Delaware County, Indiana.

Thomas Willard continued to live with his grandparents and was on the 1880 census living with them in Delaware County going to school and working a farmhand.

Eli and Caroline had the following child:

  • Thomas Willard Petty was born on 16 July 1865 in Howard County, Indiana and he died in 1907 in Delaware County, Indiana.
