Elizabeth Ross (1837-1908)

Elizabeth Ross was born to John William and Christena (Wambaugh) Ross on 29 August 1837 in Ohio.

In the 1850 census, Elizabeth was living with her parents in Harrison, Champaign, Ohio. She was 13 years old and going to school. Seven years later, on 5 March 1857, Elizabeth was married to Robert Arthur Abrams in Champaign County by Seth Howell, Minister.

Robert and Elizabeth were living in Adams, Champaign, Ohio in the 1860 census. They had one daughter, Frances Ellen, who was two years old. They also had a boarder living with them named Ninian Nichols, fourteen years old and going to school.

In September of 1860, Robert was appointed Administrator of the estate of John William Ross. It took three years to complete the necessary work to finish the probate, but by 29 December 1863, it was finalized.

Two more daughters had been born by the next census in 1870. Clara Annetta was born on 20 June 1861 and Elizabeth Christina was born on 26 September 1866.

In the 1880 census, the family was still living in Adams, Champaign, Ohio. Robert and Elizabeth had a fourth daughter, Nella Mable, on 14 June 1871. Frances Ellen, the oldest, had married Finley Yinger about 1879 and had moved out.

Between 1880 and 1885, the Abrams family moved to Montana, Jewell, Kansas. Robert and Elisabeth were farming and Lizzie (Elizabeth Christina) was teaching. Clara Annetta had married George Curtis Walburn on 11 March 1884 and they were also living in Montana. Nellie (Nella Mable), the youngest, was still at home and attending school.

Lizzie married William R. Kirkpatrick about 1887 and they moved to Nebraska. Nellie married John R. Lane about 1890 and they had a daughter, Lucy Lois Lane on 19 June 1891.

In the 1895 Kansas state census, John and his daughter Lucy were living with Robert and Elizabeth. Nellie had died the previous year on 9 January 1894. John remarried about 1898 to Clara Rosella Kirkpatrick, William R. Kirkpatrick’s sister.

Between 1895 and 1900, Robert and Elizabeth moved to Nebraska. The 1900 census listed them as living in Beaver, Nuckolls, Nebraska. They had a twenty-year-old boarder, Edward N. Allen, living with them.

Robert Arthur Abrams died on 18 October 1906 and Elizabeth died two years later on 3 May 1908. They probably died in either Nebraska or Kansas, I have not found a death record for either of them. They were both buried in the Webber Cemetery in Webber, Jewel County, Kansas.

Robert and Elizabeth had the following children:

  • Frances Ellen Abrams was born on 19 Dec 1857 and died 16 June 1922.
  • Clara Annetta Abrams was born on 20 June 1861 and died 26 March 1906.
  • Elizabeth Christina Abrams was born 26 September 1866 and died in 1925.
  • Nella Mable Abrams was born 14 June 1871 and died 9 January 1894.
